Gogoia (Bloco Tarado Ni Vocè)
Carnival, Sao Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷
Gogoia is the 2023’s Carnival edition of collective Bloco Tarado Ni Vocè, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Each year, for Brazil’s carnival, the collective organizes a parade with a special theme, inspiring all of the festivalers to dress up, costume themselves, and celebrate together. In 2023, the theme was “Gogoia”, based on Gal Costa’s song Gogoia and Brazil’s tropical fruit, as a symbol of resilience from the social left in the country. With Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva coming back into power after Bolsonaro, this edition of the carnival was a celebration of left politics and humanitarian values coming back into place, with more freedom for Brazil’s people.
The visual identity for the carnival featured a custom typography, hand-drawn with organic movement, dance and dynamism in mind. A small illustrative system created in 3D was accompanying the type and the visual identity was used on posters, t-shirtst, social media, flyers, flags for an evening venue, and truck design for the carnival :). A huge thanks for @blocotaradonivoce for this opportunity to celebrate Gal Costa and Brazil and for their trust on this project. It’s an honour :). A big thanks as well to photographers Victor Moriyama and Rony Hernandez for their incredible eye and for lending these beautiful photos of the events surrounding the carnival.
